Minimum Housing Standards
Rental Reforms & Minimum Housing Standards:
The Queensland Government announced that the next phase of rental reforms would commence on 1 October 2022. This includes the removal of “Without Grounds” as an option to end a tenancy in addition to restrictions and minimum time-frames imposed on other termination methods. Allowing a fixed-term lease to expire and become Periodic will no longer be an option for many landlords. Minimum housing standards will also be introduced in late 2023 across Queensland and this includes:
- Mandatory window locks.
- Flyscreens on all windows & doors.
- Window coverings(blinds, curtains, tinting) in all rooms a tenant would expect privacy.
